July Favorites / Disappointments

Hey and welcome back! Let the monthly favorites posts roll in! I am excited to talk to you about all the things I have been loving or did this month. Tell me in the comments below your top favorite of the month was!

Elf Brow Wow – I have fallen in love with eye brow gels. I have always been a brow pencil but could never get that bushy look to my brows. This formula is nice and creamy and really gets my brow hairs to stay in place after brushing them through. I purchased the black color and it’s perfect. Brow gel has been a big game changer for me. Heart eyes all the way.

Ten Over Ten Polish in Cliff – I received this polish in an Ipsy bag a few months ago and I absolutely love it. It’s a nice burnt orange summer shade and it doesn’t smell like nail polish whatsoever! It actually smells fruity. The applicator is wide enough to really get a good swipe through on the nail. This is also a Cruelty-free 8-free polish!

Food Avocado Oil All-In-One Heat Spray– I will be the first to say I am the worst person to use a heat protecting spray for my hair. I finally doubled down and picked this one up. It leaves my hair feeling soft, shiny and protected all without feeling like it’s weighing down my hair and it has a very soft and faint scent.

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Sunscreen SPF 70 – I talked about this product a few posts ago and I wanted to include this in my July favorites. It is such an easy and quick product to use. It absorbs nicely into the skin and I truly feel it protects my skin from all of these harsh summer rays. I apply this to my face and neck before my makeup. This does not leave a white mask or feel weird on my skin..

ELF Putty Primer – This primer took a bit to get adjusted to. The first week, I couldn’t figure out how to apply this primer without it leaving my skin shiny. I soon realized that I needed to let it dry longer than the suggested 30 seconds and it seems to have worked. I love how hydrating this primer is. Any dry patches it instantly leaves smooth. As for pores, it does an amazing job at giving my skin a blurred effect and leaving it blurred quite nicely.

Almost Famous – So my favorite movie was played in downtown Nashville at the Bicentennial park and while it was hot, muggy and our seats were uncomfortable, I had a blast. Something about a summer night surrounded by people watching this movie was magic. Nashville does this Light Bright Event every Summer, so I am excited for next summer’s movie lineup.

Tattoo- After 2 years, I got my third tattoo and I’m I love with it. My sister and her friend had been getting these cute and dainty pieces and I was itching to get one from Courtney Instagram Handle @numbhand…  So, I picked a piece on her flash page and I can’t stop looking at it. The meaning behind it was me getting to place of change with turning 25. I guess you can say I had a quarter life crisis, but I flipped my perspective and started realizing this could be a time for a positive metamorphosis. I can shed my skin for the better. The hand and the snake are the change I am going through of not yet figuring out what I want to do in life among other things. I truly have been feeling a change since turning 25 so this tattoo symbolizes that change that I am still experiencing.

Third Eye Blind: Never did I think I would see this band that so reminds me of my sisters and brother. I wasn’t even planning on going until last minute, but I am so glad I did because it gave me such motivation to do more spontaneous things. I will never forget Me, my sisters and our friends belting out to Semi-Charmed Life and Graduate. This was major mental picture night.

FAILS

Shea Moisture – This moisturizer was way too difficult to work with I gave it a shot and tried applying it differently, but it just got to be too much to worry about. It would leave my face very matte to where It would make my makeup lay horribly. I would also have it starting to come off in little pieces as I worked it into my skin which was extremely frustrating. I purchased this to calm down the redness I have but it only gave me more issues than resolutions.  Shea Moisture is an amazing brand, but this product was a big hassle and disappointment.

Colourpop No Filter Concealer – I was excited to transition to this brand as they are dominating the affordable makeup world. However, this concealer was one of the worst I have used. I noticed it would settle in dry spots and wouldn’t budge once dried. After some time, it would oxidize and turn my undereyes into a crepey discolored mess. It creased and looked extremely cakey despite my efforts to prep my skin and set them after. I tried wearing this concealer a few days in a row and each time, it did the same thing. I wanted to like this concealer but it’s on to looking for something else!

As stated in my intro, please comment below and tell me what your top favorite was for July! Also tell me what you’re most excited about for August! Thanks so much for reading!

  1. Hey Sam!! The tattoo on your arms looks so feminine and edgy, really suits you👏🏾💕 I’m sooooo happy I read your post for the E.l.f. Wow Brow because I saw it at Ulta for $4 but wasn’t sure if it was legit. Sometimes I’m looking for a quick fix to my brows, this sounds like an affordable but doable product. So excited to try, will let you know what I think 😁
