My Tattoo Story!

Growing up, tattoos weren’t something that was forbidden, but they were not encouraged. I have always wanted a floral tattoo because I have always seen so much beauty and life in them and they always remind me of my mom who has a jungle of plants all around the house for as long as I can remember. I knew that if I were to get a tattoo one day, it would have something to do with flowers or plants. It wasn’t until last year that I finally decided to get it done. I have two sisters and of course my mom and wanted to get three black and grey flowers on my arm representing them. Black and grey because I like how that minimal color looks on my olive skin. A peony for my mom and a rose for one of my sisters. I chose the minimal look because that is just the style I like and am drawn to.  I went to Kustom Thrills in East Nashville and had Brandon Henderson work his magic.  I talked to my mom right before I got it done and all she said was “can you not get it done smaller?” I assured her it would not be that big and that I would let her know when I was finished. The process was unlike any other. It was a very sanitized space so I wasn’t worried about that. I was worried about how I would feel. Would it hurt alot? Would I be able to handle this? What if I move and I make him mess up?

I was overthinking but my boyfriend reassured me I would be fine. The pain started off as little pokes. This was okay….until an hour in. This pain became raw and annoying. I could handle it, it just felt pretty uncomfortable. My tattoo took about an hour and a half to finish and I ended up getting only two flowers done instead of the three. I didn’t know  how much it would end up costing.tat2.jpg

I am quite the indecisive person so I chose to just leave it plain without any shading and then, If I wanted it, I could go back and shade it in. It has been almost a year since I got this tattoo and I am still so in love with it. I am so excited to go back and get my third flower and have some line shading added in a bit. I love the idea of tattoos because they are extended representations of oneself. I never get old of looking at this little garden on my arm everyday.
